FROM:DIANNEMALLINSON
Good pointers on
washing up by Debora,
but why bring the Bible
and the infant Jesus into
the article? I’m all for
folks remembering why
we celebrate Christmas
but I hope that it would
be in a reverent and
meaningful way, not
with disrespect. This
article missed the
mark for me.

FROM: NICOLA CROFTS
I had to write in to say how much Debora’s article
resonated with me. It brought back such fond memories
of me and my siblings staying at Nanny and Grandad’s,
with clear instructions of “glasses first” coming from the
dining room when we were delegated the washing up.
It didn’t stop us all squabbling over who was going to
do the washing up over the drying, though!

SUBJECT: THE TRUE MEANING OF CHRISTMAS?
Debora Robertson’s essay on the delicate art of
washing up (Dec, p54) drew contrasting responses

I’m a subscriber who lives and works overseas. Every
month your magazine provides a welcome reminder
of home. I’m always keen to pass on some of our great
culinary heritage wherever we are, and here in the
British Embassy in the Dominican Republic we’re
lucky to have a number of keen chefs who are
welcome recipients of your magazine.
I thought you might like to see a photo of me
sharing delicious. with our Vice Consul and current
MasterChef Dominican Republic, Nathaly Ramírez.
I’ve been trying to persuade her to ‘Dominicanise’
toad in the hole! Keep up the good work of helping us
spread the word about the diversity of British cuisine.
