MysticPizzaisa realrestaurant.Themovie’sscreenwriter,
AmyHoldenJones,visiteditonholiday,wascharmed,and
endedupbasingherscreenplayonit.Therestaurantwas
re-createdona setforthemovieand,ina classicexample
oflifeimitatingart,therealrestaurantsubsequently altered
itsdesigntolookmorelikeitdoesinthemovie.
We’vegonewiththehousespecial(whatelse?),though
whetherwe’veachievedthatmystical‘secretrecipe’sauceisfor
youtojudge.Let’sjustsaythedelicious.teamgaveitglowing
reviews...There’sa keysceneattheendofthemovieinvolving
chocolateicecream(nospoilers),soforpuddingwesuggesthaving
some with your warm cookie – what could be more New England?

  • 2 pincheschilliflakes

  • Plainflourfordusting

  • 2 ballsNorthernDoughpizza
    dough(fromSainsbury’s and
    Ocado),defrosted

  • 100gcookingmozzarella,diced
    (orusegratedmozzarella)

  • 2 spicycuredsausages (we used
    Peperami),sliced

  • 12 slicespepperoni

  • ½greenpepper,sliced

  • ½ onion, finely sliced


1 Heata splashoftheoliveoilin
a deepfryingpan.Whenhot,add
themeatballsandfryona medium
heat,turningoccasionally,untilwell
brownedallover(4-5minutes).Set
themeatballsasideona plate,then
addtheremainingoiltothepan
alongwiththegarlicandgently
warmthroughfora minute.
2 Addthepassatatothepanalong
withthevinegar,oreganoandchilli
flakes,thenstirandletthesauce
simmerfor 10 minutes.Returnthe
meatballstothepanandsimmer
againfor8-10minutesuntilthe
meatballsarecookedthrough.
Setaside(seeMakeAhead).
3 Meanwhile,heattheoventoits
highestsetting.Ona well-floured
worktop,rollouteachballofdough
toa circleroughly20cmindiameter,
thentransferthemto2 lightly
dusted baking sheets.
