Silent Pool, Conker Spirit, Healeys,
Cotswolds Distillery and Chase

As restaurants and caterers closed their doors,
London food redistribution charity City Harvest
was flooded with donations. A tonne of chicken
from Nando’s, steaks from Hawksmoor, whole
salmon from sushi chain Wasabi, plus vanfuls
of food from Facebook’s onsite restaurants
filled the charity’s warehouse shelves 10-deep.
The glut amounted to 20 tonnes a day. Extra
volunteers, including furloughed hospitality
workers, helped process the bounty and double
delivery capacity, ensuring the food reached
communities. The silver lining of a sad week for

the hospitality industry was an extra 225,
meals provided for London’s most vulnerable.
City Harvest has since teamed up with food
distribution charities The Felix Project and
FareShare to form the London Food Alliance,
sharing resources to stock new community
hubs with surplus food, ensuring no Londoner
goes hungry during the pandemic.
