AfewmonthsagoI becamereacquaintedwith
a troublesomeoldfriend myinsomniacself.I’mnot
theonlyonewhoacceptedthisunwelcomefriendship
requesteither.We’vebeenlivingthroughepically
sorrowfultimes,grievinglovedoneslostandfacing
a dystopiannewnormal.I,likemanyothers, was
rattled twitching,andbereftofsleep.
I triedwarmbaths,prayer,sippinglukewarm
Ovaltineandsettinga curfewformyelectronics,but
I havediscoveredthebestformofmidnightmeditation
isplanningmeals mostofallbrunch.Dinnermight
bethemostseriousmealoftheday,butbrunchis
initsgoldenageandisthemostexciting.Itpresents
anopportunitytogowaybeyondtheclassicsofeggs
benedictandavocadotoast,andlaythetablewith
ingeniousoptionsinspiredbya globalpantrythatare
asenlighteningandunexpectedastheyaresatisfying.
I driftoffcontemplatinga worldofbrunchoptionsfromparathas to
shakshukaandwakeupwoozy,butwitha sharpappetite.
Thereisanoptimismandcheerinesstobrunch.Itallowsfora slow
andlazystartandencouragesidleindulgence,especiallyifyou’re
eatinginthecomfortofyourownhome.Tofindyourself,bloodymary
inhand,infrontofa tableladenwithpancakesorevenjusta stackof
hotbutteredcrumpetsistoknowthatthingscouldalwaysbemuch
worse.Soifyoufindyourselfsleepless,plantomakebrunchfor
yourself or for someone you love. It makes things better, always.
