wine matching, but Which Wine
When by Bert Blaize & Claire
Strickett (Ebury £9.99, out
13 August) manages to cover the
classic, tried and tested pairings
while adding some inspiring,
original suggestions.
It’s clearly set out, with chapters
covering the best wines for home-
cooked classics, fancier dishes,
snacks and (refreshingly) takeaways
and fast food. There’s a cheese
chapter and the section on what to
matchwithsweetthingsisespecially
good – choc chip cookies with sweet
marsala wine? Yes please.
I don’t agree with all the combos
- Goan fish curry
with sweet asti
sparkling, for
example – but
that’s the personal
nature of the
subject. Overall,
it’s an excellent
introductory
guide.
