limberingupfora catch-the-last-of-summer

cookout,withtipstoprepasmuchasyoucanahead,

thenpackandgo.Oryoucandoitinthegarden(tobe

honest,that’swhatI’llbedoing)– nolessenjoyable.

Ourgardenhascomeintoitsownthisyear.

Mydailyritualhasbeenworkingathomealoneallday,thesilence

punctuatedonlybyonlinemeetingsandincessantdrillingfromthe

housebeingbuiltovertheback(timing!).Later,whenmyhusband

comesbackfromtheGPpracticewhereheworks,wesitoutsidewith

a glassofwineandsomewarm,saltytoastedalmondsanddiscuss

theday.Thosehavebeenspecialsanity-savingmomentsofthepast

sixmonths– somethingwe’dneverordinarilydoasinold-normal

circumstancesI’dhavebeenintown,workinglateandgoingtoevents

threenightsa week.It’simportanttolookforsilverlinings.

Therestofthisissuecelebratesthejoyoftheharvest:plums,corn,

berries,peppers,leafygreens,apples(sogoodforyou– seep102).Most

ofall,praisetoYotamOttolenghiwho,withhisteam,hasreachednew

heightsofbrilliancewithhisjust-outbookFlavour(myOttolenghi

cookbooksaresowellthumbed,thepagesaregettingfluff yattheedges).

producingdelicious.underrecentconditions(underlinedbythe

closureofscoresofprintmagazinesinthespaceofsixmonths).I was

overwhelmedbyanoutpouringofencouragementviaemailandsocial

media,soI’llfinishbysayingTHANKYOUtoeachandeveryoneofyou

whosupportsusandlovesdelicious.– inprintandonline.We’rehere
