milk. Take home a hearty block

a dense, grainy blue that’s been
made here since the 13th century.

THEY EVEN HAVE A
MICROBREWERY
If all that superior food and fine
wine is starting to make you feel
a bit puffily bourgeois and you’re
craving more plebeian pleasures,
Birrificio CitaBiunda in the village
of Neive (1 Via Moniprandi) is a
hipster-ish corner of Piedmont. In a
former schoolhouse, they knock out
excellent 36-hour-proved sourdough
pizzas and their own beers in
adventurous styles, from Belgian to
British (they’ve even adopted the
dubious British custom of pun
names with Sensu Ale – geddit?!).
There’s ‘birramisu’ for pudding too.
In warm weather the beer garden is
a delight, and the concept has proved
so successful they’ve opened a
second branch in Alba, serving
burgers (1 Via Biglino). →
