The last 12 months have been
particularly stressful for our family.
Our critically ill son was
hospitalised but he received
amazing care and responded well
to the medications and treatments.
We were ahead of the game in
thanking and praising the NHS!
His results at the start of
2020 were good, so we
booked a family break
in Milan to celebrate and
relax a little. Obviously,
it was soon clear Milan
wasn’t going to be
visited. We know
everyone has missed out
on events, holidays,
weddings and so many
things and we’re acutely aware we
have so much to be grateful for, but
as our ‘holiday’ date approached
I felt we still should do something...
I borrowed Italian cookbooks
from friends and raided my own,
but nothing piqued my interest
until I looked at my shelf of

‘vintage’ delicious.
magazines and found an
Italian special issue...
Squash risotto, chocolate
mousse, biscotti, roast
pork, polenta, gnocchi,
ravioli, antipasti and so
on... We brought Italy to our
garden in Perthshire and the sun
shone for us too. I was so busy
cooking (and washing up!) that my
mind didn’t have time to dwell
on things. Thank you for playing
your part in our special stay-at-
home weekend.

SUBJECT: DELICIOUS.
PREDICTS THE FUTURE!
WELL, SORT OF...
FROM: PAMELA HUGHSON
Leafing through my
delicious. magazines,
this page [below] from
the December 2019 issue
struck a chord. How
prophetic those words
at the top were: we
have all cooked more,
experimented more, been
horrified when flour
disappeared from the
shelves – and as for yeast...
Five months on,
shopping has calmed and
we can make the recipes
we want. For me, baking
has been a way of
thanking our neighbours
who shopped for us. We
would let them know what
was on the menu on
a Friday from ‘The Hoose
Bakery’ (my husband is a
Scot) for click and collect!
Wishing you all a safe
future and thank you for
keeping me up to scratch
baking different goodies.
