SKY HIGH

, an upmarket lifestyle
complex in Hong Kong’s Admiralty neighbourhood, The Upper
House Hotel is all about understated luxury and serenity, far from
the hustle and bustle of the city’s sensory overload. As I make my
way up to my home away from home, a soothing scent of ginger
and verbena fills the air. There is no ‘checking in’ as such (who
knew no paperwork could be so freeing!); instead, I am guided by
a personal greeter past a lush lawn (a rarity in Hong Kong) flooded
with natural light. An elevator that instantly calms with its gentle
chimes whisks me up to the zero-rush zone of my suite.
The luxury hotel by design superstar Andre Fu has 117 spacious
rooms, and the aura of calm continues through the contemporary
design featuring natural blond timbers, paper panels and
green-tea-coloured upholstery. Suite layouts offer abundant
space, including 28-square-metre bathrooms with walk-in rain
showers, dressing areas and free-standing bathtubs boasting
breathtaking panoramic harbour or mountainous island views.
Even the standard studio suites (at 68 square metres) are larger
than a typical Hong Kong apartment.
While there are many impressive artworks and sculptures
dotted around the hotel, the highlight is definitely Level 49 with
its architecturally intriguing Sky Bridge. Cross it to find the Sky
Lounge and the hotel’s signature restaurant and bar, Café Gray
Deluxe, which serves polished European cuisine with an Asian
twist. From morning to night, the restaurant’s bar is the place
to enjoy drinks and cocktails surrounded by tho aforementioned
views – the Lemongrass Deluxe is a must-try.
Renowned for its standout personalised service, The Upper
House Hotel’s hospitality and serenity will leave you so high up
in the clouds, the comedown will be a challenge. However, with
endless shopping and cuisines at your doorstep, you’ll no doubt
be lured out to explore the rest of this beguiling city.
