MANLY GREENHOUSE (above), a beachfront bar
and restaurant by Greg Anderson and Patricia
Nunes, has drifted into Sydney’s northern
beaches. Taking shape in the former Shore Club hotel,
the venue offers a street-level bar with all-day menu,
a middle-level grill, and a rooftop suffused with light
and festooned with greenery. Go for woodfired pizzas,
wines on tap and tranquil views of Manly Beach.

With its inky walls, shadowy lighting and
intriguing Japanese fare, HONTO in Brisbane’s
FortitudeValleycastsaspell.ChefNathan
Lastevec has collaborated with Tokyo native
Kogi Ohori for dishes such as yellowtail with
avocado cream, prawn doughnuts with kimchi
mayo, and whole snapper karaage; its ‘drumstick’
with tuna and avocado is pictured above. Honto is
the sister venue to Longtime, celebrated for retooling
Thai specialties.

Steakfritesenthusiasts will thrill to the sublime
version at Melbourne’s GARÇON PARIS
STEAKHOUSE (above right). The pasture-fed
porterhouse steak is served with Café de Paris butter,
golden fries and a leafy salad. All the bistro codes are
here, from escargots tomoules marinieres, as well as
timber chairs, pendant lights and a playful split-level
room with cues from ’80s Paris. You half expect
French style icon Ines de la Fressange to saunter in.
