and flavours. You’ll be addicted before you
know it! Gwangjang Market is a must-visit
for those who love big bowls of steaming
noodle and dumpling soups.
Take the time to try soondae, a
traditional blood and rice sausage (it’s
delicious, trust me!), tteokbokki (spicy rice
cake), bindaetteok (fried mung bean cake),
and ganjang gelang, a beautiful, silky crab
meat marinated in soy, or hongeo-hoe
(a fermented fish that even I had trouble
eating. Some things are a visual feast
alone!). Don’t forget to try a few drinks,
too: I recommend makgeolli (milky
alcoholic rice wine) and soju (a Korean
spirit that’s becoming quite popular
internationally).
Korea truly is a country of the new
millennium, yet it’s also steeped in history
and culture. Seoul’s beautiful old city
streets are home to temples, palaces,
historic homes to some of the best
modern architecture in the world. It is one
of the most impressive cities I’ve visited.
On top of that, Koreans really know how to
have fun! Seoul is overflowing with
restaurants, bars, karaoke spots and
festivals throughout the year, meaning
anytime is a good time to visit.
