Chef and restaurateur
Brooke Williamson shows
us her one-of-a-kind
Los Angeles kitchen.
Brooke Williamson, winner of
Food Network’s 2020 Tournament
of Champions, is used to working
closely with her husband,
Nick Roberts. They co-own the
Los Angeles restaurant Playa
Provisions, so when it was time
to build their dream kitchen at
home, collaborating was easy.
They both wanted a breezy,
casual space where the family—
including son Hudson, 12—could
hang out and cook together. “We
were hoping to create something
that felt comfortable, open and
bright,” says Brooke. She and
Nick spent almost a year working
with architect Santiago Ortiz on
the design. They opted for super-
tough Caesarstone countertops
and appliances from Viking and
Ferguson, then added a custom
touch by installing plywood
cabinets, one of Brooke’s favorite
features of the kitchen. They made
the space feel personal by filling
the open shelves with artisan
pottery, including pieces from
Brooke’s mom, a ceramicist. Read
on to steal some of their fun ideas.
Shelf showcase
Brooke was nervous about having
open shelving, but it gave her a
reason to buy some fun new stuff.
“I didn’t want to show my old plastic
plates and cups, so it forced me to
upgrade a lot of my serveware.”
Dog cubby
Brooke and Nick
lined this empty shelf
in the kitchen island
with a pillow so their
dogs Rio, Birdy and
Otis have a comfy
place to nap.
