It takesus 15 minutestoclamberupa steeprocky
staircasetothetopofthefalls,anoasisofpoolsand
eucalyptssuspended 100 metresovertheplains.The
watersarecoolandlituponbydragonflies.Wepeer
overtheledge,watchingtheblackwatersshatterinto
whitedaggersinthehotTerritoryair.
Thefeelingofremovalfromrealityis extraordinary,
mademoresobyLord’sstories.Theyincreasingly
feellikeanAustralianformofmagicalrealism,spun
byGabrielGarcíaMárquezina batteredAkubra.
