a moreimpressiveintroduction
toa newjob.Just 24 hoursafter
farewellingtheconcreteskies
ofAuckland,I foundmyselfbasking
inthemajestyoftheSydneyOpera
Houseandtheculinaryjewelinits
crown,Bennelong.Outside,the
harboursparkledundera radiantsun.
Inside,PeterGilmoregreetedme
warmlyasI waitedtomeetmynew
teamforthefirsttime.
Thenextnight,wewerebackfor
theGourmetTraveller 2020 Restaurant
Awards,completingmywhirlwind
induction. Aseditor,it’sa given(and
a greatprivilege)thatyouwillcross
pathswithmanyoftheindustry’s
brighteststars.It’srathermore
unusualtomeetthemallinyour
firstdayonthejob.
I didn’tthinkit waspossibleto
bemoreexcitedaboutmynewrole
thanI was.Butafterspeakingwith
suchiconsasKylieKwongandBen
Shewry,alongwithsomany others,
I was positively fizzing.
