Patritti Wines’ vineyard at Blewitt Springs is a complex beast,
where even tiny variations can make all the diff erence...

S

ometimes a producer’s range has a lot to do with the site. A stone’s
throw from the centre of the renowned McLaren Vale wine region
is Patritti’s Blewitt Springs vineyard – planted in the 1960s and
fully operational ever since. With an average age of more than
fi fty years, their grapes are what we call ‘old vine’, and here they get their
qualities not just from their age but from the richness of the location.
Vines mere metres from each other can produce wines with remarkably
diff erent characters.
Blewitt Springs has soils that are ancient and sandy, giving us fruit
that’s complex and layered. This imparts a unique fl avour profi le on all of
Patritti’s stellar wines – but a grape’s individual tastes can vary depending
on the composition of the soil throughout the site. That’s why Patritti
are able to craft three unique premium shiraz wines – the JPB Limited
Release, the Lot Three Single Vineyard, and the Merchant Shiraz – that
nevertheless share an unmistakable common essence. Climate, topography,
aspect... whether you’re a surveyor or a wine-maker, they’re essential.

JPB LIMITED
RELEASE SHIRAZ
With the depth and
intensity of old vines, this
is a rich and full-bodied
shiraz characterised
by concentrated fruit
flavours and the binding
of American oak.

PATRITTI LOT
THREE SHIRAZ
A distinguished and
refined wine, with its fruit
picked lower down – a
small change that yields
a big difference. Plum, black
fruits and savoury peat.

PATRITTI
MERCHANT SHIRAZ
The quintessential
McLaren Vale shiraz:
rich and ripe with superb
balance and structure, all
due to the warmer ‘square
block’ section of the
Blewitt Springs vineyard.
