Gelateria Ottavo Senso
The texture of the gelato in Milan
is so light, fluffy, and smooth. And
because we visited in December,
we were lucky enough to encounter
a delicious panettone flavor.

Giolitti
Popular even on a rainy night in
January, it was worth the wait for
dark-as-night blackberry gelato
or creamy noce (walnut). (giolitti.it)
Gelateria dei Neri
The gelato here is smooth, dense,
and almost stretchy. We made a
good life choice: hedonistic choco-
late amaro and almost-funky salted
butter caramel. (facebook.com/

Gelateria Soave
We chose to eschew the funicolare
and walk up the many, many steps
to the Vomero neighborhood, where
a scoop of just-churned caffè gelato
made the perfect reward. (Via
Alessandro Scarlatti, 130)
ALL THE GELATO
We got to know all
the regional nuances
of gelato during our
Year of Italy. Here are
our favorites.
