7 REASONS YOU

SHOULD BE EATING

FARMED SALMON

IN 2020

It’s super healthy and tastes great, but there are

even more benefits to choosing farmed salmon.

1 _ RICH IN OMEGA-3 FATTY ACIDS
This essential nutrient has been shown to
strengthen immunity, lower blood pressure,
and boost your mood. To reap the rewards of
Omega-3s, a study in the Nutrition Journal
recommends eating a six-ounce serving of fish,
such as farmed salmon, every week.

2 _ CONTRIBUTES TO HEART HEALTH
Consuming at least two servings of seafood
such as farmed salmon weekly can boost your
heart health, according to the American Heart
Association.

3 _ GOOD FOR PREGNANT WOMEN
Omega-3 fatty acids found in farmed salmon
are essential to healthy fetal and early childhood
development. The Dietary Guidelines for
Americans recommends that pregnant women
eat 8 to 12 ounces of seafood, which can
include farmed salmon, each week.

4 _ IT’S DELICIOUS
In a blind test, journalists at the Washington
Post rated the smooth, buttery richness of
farmed salmon as better tasting than its wild
counterpart.

5 _ LOW IN SATURATED FAT
Farmed salmon is an excellent source of lean
protein, which means it’s high in the right kind
of fats (unsaturated) and low in the wrong
kind (saturated). The Dietary Guidelines for
Americans recommends replacing some meat
or poultry in your diet with seafood, such as
farmed salmon.

6 _ LOW IN MERCURY
According to the FDA, farmed salmon is a
safe, low-mercury seafood, considered a “best
choice” for eating a four-ounce serving two to
three times a week.

7 _ IT’S SUSTAINABLE
Farmed fish, including salmon, is responsible
for fewer greenhouse gas emissions than
pork, farmed shellfish, or beef. To buy from
a sustainable source, consult the Aquaculture
Stewardship Council.
