vines on the planet. Tucked in the Murray Darling

grape-growing region, Barramundi traces its roots back

to 1887 yet has innovated with sustainable viticulture

and vini cation methods.  e resulting wines are

FRESH TALENT

Inspired by his Calabrian heritage and a family

winemaking tradition that dates back over six

generations, Chief Winemaker John Pezzaniti, or

“Pezz,” has taken a hands-on approach from his  rst

to his 25th vintage this year. With a degree in wine

science, he started his career as a cellar hand. At the

helm, he’s fostered an innovative team including up-

and-coming female winemaker Pia Merrick, specializing

in whites, and Gary Compton, overseeing reds.

HARMONY WITH NATURE

Integrating state-of-the-art tech and a green ethos,

Barramundi is committed to reducing its carbon

footprint and nurturing local wildlife. Its water-saving

irrigation pumps are the  rst of their kind in Australia,

and the vineyard is harvested at night to lower energy

consumption and improve e ciency.  rough a

farming project, stem waste is composted and pressed

grape skins are transformed into power generation.

SIPPABLE SUNSHINE

For a solid intro to Barramundi’s portfolio of wines,

which are newly available in the U.S., the label’s Pinot

Grigio is crisp, clean, and refreshing. With aromas of

pear, nectarine, and grapefruit, and a distinct Meyer

lemon character, this classic white pairs beautifully with

summery dishes, such as barbecued snapper or coconut-

poached chicken with a tropical side salad.
