Help Us Stranger
The Raconteurs
It’s been more than a decade since the
Detroit rockers last released a studio album
- 2008’s Consolers of the Lonely. But this
comeback project has been well-received,
and touches on both the country-folk of the
previous album and the power-pop stomp of
their debut, Broken Boy Soldiers.
FIVE FACTS:
- The Raconteurs formed in 2005, and
consist of White, Brendan Benson, Patrick
Keeler and Jack Lawrence. - Lawrence and Keeler were originally
members of The Greenhornes, with vocalist
and guitarist Craig Fox. - White has said of the making of Help Us
Stranger: “It was baby steps – we didn’t
say, hey, we’re going to make an album
or go on tour. We just thought, let’s get
together and record a couple of songs and
see how that goes.” - “Sunday Driver” and “Now That You’re
Gone” both previously appeared on last
year’s reissue of Consolers of the Lonely. - According to AllMusic’s Stephen
Thomas Erlewine, “what keeps Help Us
Stranger lively is how the Raconteurs blend
and mix barbed pop and blues skronk so
their classicism feels fresh, not stale.”
