Meeting the Client
Everycommissionedartproject,whetherforatattooor
otherwise,beginswithaconsultationwiththeclient.Itis
importanttorememberthattheconsultationisthefirst
timethatyou’llspendtimewithyourclient,sobesureto
makeagoodfirstimpression.Theclientwillwanttofeel
you’reintotheartworkandareconfidentyoucandoit
justice.Theyalsowanttofeelthatthey’reimportantto
you—and they certainly are. Without clients, you
wouldn’t be working.Sotake thetime andspend the
energyto makeyourclientfeelcomfortable—itreally
counts.
Some clients are very specific about what theywant,
whileothersjusthaveageneralideaandarecountingon
youtohelpthemsolidifytheirconcept.You’llfirstwant
to figure out what the client wants as the principal
subjectmatterforthetattoo.You’llalsoneedtoknow
what secondaryelementstheyhaveinmind andwhat
type of background, if any, is needed.

photosofartthattheylikeinordertopointyouinthe
