Savage State
As the American Civil War erupts, a French-
born family that had settled in Missouri
abandons it in a bid to return to Paris. The
group is escorted through the perilous
Western territories by a mercenary called
Victor (Kevin Janssens), whose dark past soon
comes flooding back.
FIVE FACTS:
- Napoleon III, the Emperor of the French
from 1852 to 1870, is referenced early in
the film. - The reference comes when the film notes
that, in 1861, Napoleon III warned “French
settlers on the continent” to adhere to “strict
neutrality” during the American Civil War. - Edmond, the male head of the family of
French colonists in the film, is played by
Bruno Todeschini. - Meanwhile, Constance Dollé plays his
wife Madeline – and their daughters are
portrayed by Alice Isaaz, Déborah François
and Maryne Bertieaux. - In the film, the youngest daughter, Esther
(Isaac), is romantically drawn towards Victor,
who is also similarly sought after by Bettie
(Katie Moran), a bandit queen chasing
the travelers.
