hether it’s a feeling
inspired by editing
techniques of
other artists or just
experimenting with
how an image looks, I have always
used photography as a way of
expressing style. I have implemented
many ideas from photography that
I thought would definitively express
my opinion and style to an audience.
Photography is such an important
piece of art: it is a way for all of us to
understand ourselves, others and
everything around us so much more.
I feel photography is such a broad
genre that we cannot determine
which picture is better than another.
I believe that art is subjective. I’m
only 20 years old, but I feel extremely
passionate about introducing other
people into the world of photography,
and I hope they can also discover
a new creative pastime.

If you’re just starting off photographing
people, set your camera’s shooting mode
to Portrait. As you are beginning your
photographic journey, it’s best to let the
camera do the work for you to start with!
Simply point at your subject through the
camera viewfinder, and position the
subject within the black square.Composing the shot
I focused on the set, and thought about
how I could use the natural colour from
the location we shot, to exaggerate later
in post-production. I positioned the
camera centrally, to get as much of the
main subject as possible in the frame,
but still allowed the background and
the outer edge of the set to be visible.Using creative colours
When editing, I had no idea at first what
the picture would appear as; I was inspired
to craft a dramatic, colourful piece, and
made this. I experimented with colour
and gradient in Photoshop, and selected
rectangle areas using the Marquee Tool.
