Adding the twirl
I opened the original macro image
in PaintShop Pro and applied
Effects > Distortion Effects >
Twirl. (In Photoshop, you can go to
Filter > Distort > Twirl.) I pasted
this as a layer over the original,
then flipped it horizontally. I
altered Opacity to light the two
images, then flattened the image
and increased Vibrancy slightly.

How twirling began
Due to lockdown, twirling has
become really popular with people
learning new skills and techniques
and fine-tuning old ones, while
hoping to get back to some new
sort of normality when conditions
allow. The original macro water
droplet image was part of this fad.

Becoming artistic
I’ve always admired abstract
art, but it wasn’t possible for me
to create it... until now, that is.
Twirling allows you to take a basic
shot and immediately transform
it into something on a totally
different level of art. It might
be a lockdown fad, but it’s
easy and anyone can do it!
