Try some different poses
Once your dog has settled in and is happily posing away

  • being rewarded with some treats, of course – you could take
the camera off the tripod. Then you can zoom in and out and
change the angle of the shot. Think about moving the dog
around the frame, as well as the height you’re shooting it from
and the direction the animal is looking in; a different view can
show another physical feature. Don’t forget to take breaks
between shots so your model can ‘paws’ for thought...

Edit to bring out your dog’s features
I shot a series of images of Lily in different poses,
while sitting down and also lying on her paws. When editing
the images afterwards, I concentrated on bringing out her
physical features: I focused on the brightness, contrast
and colour balance, bringing the brightness higher
than the contrast because I wanted to show off Lily’s
golden-brown features. I was careful not to go so
low with the contrast that I couldn’t see Lily’s outline.
