PRO SHOT
Dunstanburgh Castle
With little light pollution in
the area, Dunstanburgh Castle
in Northumberland is a great
location for astrophotography
and turning night into day, using
a combination of moonlight
and extreme camera settings.
This shot succeeds through a
combination of wide aperture,
high ISO and long exposure.

PRO ADVICE
Capturing stars
When you’re shooting stars,
it’s easy to capture the slight
rotation of the Earth, which
renders stars more like jelly
beans than dots. The ‘500 rule’
can help to avoid this: divide
500 by the focal length you’re
shooting at to arrive at a
maximum exposure time
before stars begin to blur.
