ABOUT THE YARN
Scheepjes Stone Washed is a
soft and practical sport-weight
blend of 78% cotton and 22%
acrylic, with a toning inner thread
that provides the pre-worn effect.
It can be washed and tumble
dried on a gentle setting. This
yarn provides excellent stitch
definition, comes in a huge range
of colours and costs £2.99 per
50g (130m) ball from 0845 519
4573 , deramores.com

NEED AN ALTERNATIVE?
Scheepjes River Washed is a
funky yarn based on the same
fibres as Stone Washed and can
therefore be used interchangeably.
With a contrast inner thread it
produces bright and bold results.
Available in 22 interesting shades
it costs £2.99 per 50g (130m) ball

There are so many things we love about this brilliant cardi, especially the way
that the stripes match neatly all the way across the sleeves and body – design
genius Siân Brown has done all the hard work so all you need to do is just work
the stripe sequence as indicated throughout. Next is the zingy colour choice in
a soft cotton mix so this works as light top in its own right, as well as a handy
cover-up. Deep rib cuffs, hem and a picked up button band are the finishing
touches to this handy everyday knit.

Picking up STITCHES

Always pick up stitches with the right side of your work facing,
and use a separate strand of yarn for these stitches. It is also important to
insert the needle one stitch in from the edge to form the stitch to get
a firm edge. Working right to left, insert the needle from the front to
the back and loop the new yarn over the needle. Pull through to form the
first stitch, making sure that the needle is inserted between the first and
second stitch, not just a half stitch. Continue to pick up the stitches along the
edge, inserting the needle between the first and second stitch as before.
Note that the next row will be a wrong side row.
