Building, no entry or exit is permitted at

the railing into the chamber and noticed

in line to the presidency, was gone...

from the Senate chamber by his Secret Ser-
vice detail, under personal protection pro-
tocols and Continuity of overnment rules.

ate gallery staffers were shouting şlock the
doors,Š and it was clear that the situation
was serious. Reporters were ushered into
the press gallery above the Senate chamber,
and the doors were locked. We could hear
the mufʀed sound of the rioters outside.”

outside the Senate chamber sounded like
a routine disturbance to the members
inside, the kind of small-scale protest
that often takes place at the Capitol.

ment rules, and rushed to a secure location.

ing in place in the Senate.”
