Post tweets a video of protesters completely
occupying the center steps on the front of
the Capitol “Scene in front of the Capitol
right now. A group is saying they want a
civil war. Another is chanting the pledge
of allegiance. 9 ery chaotic all around.”

3:15 PM: Shortly before 15 PM, accord-
ing to The Washington Post, protester Ashli
Babbitt, 5, the Air )orce veteran from
San 'iego, California, is shot by Capitol
Police while attempting to force entry into
the SpeakerŠs /obby adjacent to the +ouse
chambers through a broken window.


3:15 PM: Speaker Nancy Pelosi calls
9 irginia overnor Northam, who tells her
that 9 irginia State Police and National
uard are being sent to the Capitol.


At about this time, the ɿrst
Virginia State Police enter the District.
National Guard from Virginia will
not come to the Capitol until
January 7, under Pentagon orders.

3:15 PM: The AP reports that a 'efense
ofɿcial says the 'istrict of Columbia
government has reTuested an additional
200 National *uard members. According
to ofɿcials, the *uard members have a
very speciɿc mission that does not include
putting military at the Capitol. Instead,
the *uard must be used to backɿll law
enforcement outside the Capitol complex,
freeing up more law enforcement to respond
to the Capitol. Pentagon ofɿcials insist
that any reTuest for additional National
*uard troops has not been rejected.

Secretary Chad Wolf, still in the Middle
(ast, tweets “ 9 iolence in any form is
unacceptable. N 2 one has the right to

able. We have a proud history of resolving

our differences through peaceful means.”
