Although a job like this is better suited to Illustrator, don’t
let that stop you, Photoshop can handle vectors too and,
in this tutorial, we’ll do a step-by-step walkthrough on
how to create, color, and adapt some vector shapes to
make our burger logo.

STEP ONE: CREATE THE DOCUMENT
For this tutorial, create a new document (File>New) that’s
1200x1200 px at 300 ppi and set to CMYK Color. Click
Create. This is just our workspace to begin placing the
objects we need. We can always crop afterwards.

This month’s “Designing in Photoshop” is a true graphic design tutorial. If you follow design, you probably
saw that a “royal” major burger company recently updated their branding. They actually reverted to a
previous logo with a slight update, but it was well received and is one of the better rebrands of late. So
it got me thinking that we can make our own burger chain logo in Photoshop using vector shapes and a
couple of effects.

STEP TWO: PREP YOUR COLOR SWATCHES
Before we begin our design, let’s do some prep work.
We need a color scheme with which to work to make the
process easier, plus you can save these in a CC Library
if you wish. First, to help us pick our colors, we’ll consider
the components that will make up our tasty burger.
We have eight main color
components: bun, burger,
tomato, cheese, lettuce,
sauce, pickles, and logo type.
We can select our colors
a couple of ways, but we’re
going to start with Adobe
Color Themes. Think of this
as a depository of color:
themes that have already
been created to which you
can edit or add. To access
the Adobe Color Themes
panel, go to Window>
Extensions (Legacy)>Adobe
Color Themes.
You can search for a
specific color theme in the
panel by clicking on the
Explore tab and typing in
