SHAPES: Shapes are probably the most fun portion of Capture; the ability to
yield gorgeous vectors from found objects never seems to get old. I especially
like this tool for capturing hand-drawn sketches and smoothing scribbled
notes. Navigate to Shapes, point the camera to see an object resolved as a
vector (choose B&W or color using the half-black/half-white circle icon at
the upper-left; color does best with fairly simple palettes of color).
The key to success is the strength slider below the preview and the
refinement which follows your shape capture. You can invert, erase, smooth,
and tweak your capture to achieve a degree of creativity and precision you
wouldn’t expect from your phone! Once you’ve captured any component and
saved it to a library, you can edit, refine, and polish it after-the-fact in the
assets/Libraries view of the app. As with Colors and all Capture creations, you
can simply drag these from the Libraries panel onto your canvas in Photoshop
or the application of your choice.

BRUSHES: My friend Kyle Webster is Adobe’s evangelist for drawing and
painting, and he’s also the most prolific creator of digital brushes. With
Capture, you can be like Kyle and create unique brushes that work seamlessly
in Photoshop, Illustrator, and Fresco. Capture can turn what the camera sees
into detailed pixel or vector brushes.
Once again, Capture delivers unimagined power with the option to refine
Size, Flow, Color, Jitter, and much more. I’ve seen some amazing brushes
built here, from the amusing Ribbon Brushes of stretched people to the
utility of leaves and other complex textures, which both accelerate and
distinguish detailed paintings.
