PLUGINS IN ACTION
With the Picture Instruments Tool-
box plugin installed, you can click on
it in the Plugins panel to access it
(if its panel isn’t already open). This
plugin has a Welcome screen with
a video link to help you get going.
Once you’re done with the Welcome
screen, click the x to close it and
access the tools in the plugin. As
this isn’t a tutorial on this particular
plugin, we’ll only look at it in brief.
Two tools we can look at quickly
are the Ilford - Black and White
Developer and Luminosity Masks.

ILFORD - BLACK AND WHITE DEVELOPER:
Using this part of the Toolbox, you
can create B&W photos based on
Ilford film.

STEP ONE: Choose one of the five
film options to begin. This builds
a rather complex layer stack in the
Layers panel. You can choose any
of the other filters once this is done,
without having to rebuild. Try the
DF+ if you want a lower contrast
look to begin with.

STEP TWO: In the second section,
you can add Grain, which adds a
scan of real film grain, so it’s not a
digital simulation. Each Grain option
turns on the ISO Noise layer in the
Layers panel at different opacities,
so you can tweak this if the look
you prefer is between two presets.
For example, if you find ISO 125 a
little weak and ISO 400 too strong,
change the Opacity of the ISO Noise
layer in the Layers panel to 15%.
