STEP SEVEN: Go under the Edit
menu and choose Define Brush
Preset. When prompted, give
the brush a name and click OK.

STEP EIGHT: Go under the
File menu and choose New
to create a new document.
Make it a square format by
setting it to 2000x2000 pixels.
Set the Resolution to 300 ppi,
the Background Contents to
White, and click OK or Create.

STEP NINE: Now go back to the
image containing the original
extracted subject and copy-
and-paste it or use the Move
tool (V) to drag-and-drop it
to this new document. I like
to grab the layer itself in the
Layers panel and drag it to the
target document. Make sure you
grab the extracted subject, not
the silhouetted layer.
Then, use Free Transform
(Command-T [PC: Ctrl-T]) to
scale and position the subject
in a similar way to what we
have here. You want to have
some room around the subject
for the blur effect. Don’t commit
the transformation yet.

STEP 10: While Free Transform
is still active you should see the
anchor point in the center of
the bounding box. If you don’t
see it, click the checkbox on
the left side of the Options Bar
at the top. Activate the Rulers
by pressing (Command-R [PC:
Ctrl-R]). Drag out a vertical
and horizontal guide to the
center of the bounding box
to establish the center of
the object. This will be the
starting point for the brush
effect. Press Enter to commit
the transformation.
