STEP 13: Now select the Pen tool (P) in the
Toolbar and, then in the Options Bar, make
sure the tool mode drop-down menu on the
left is set to Path.


STEP 14: In the canvas, click to start the path
where the guides intersect at that center point
of the subject. Then move the cursor up and to
the right a little, click-and-hold to add a point,
and then drag to draw a simple Bézier curve.
Release the mouse button when you have the
curve you want. Keep clicking-and-dragging
points to create a path similar to the one
shown here. The key here is to keep it small:
the bigger the shape the bigger and longer
the Smudge brushstrokes will be. The image
above shows our path with the subject layer
turned off so you can see how simple it is. We
ended the path near the start point but didn’t
close the shape. To the left you can also see
the size of the path compared to the subject.
