STEP 18: As cool as the initial
effect is, we’re not done. Let’s
enhance what we have for a
more finished look. Make a
duplicate of the smudged layer
by pressing Command-J (PC:
Ctrl-J), which will increase the
density of the streaks. Add
another duplicate to increase it
even more. I found the second
duplicate was too much so
I simply lowered its layer Opac-
ity to 50% in the Layers panel.
By increasing the density, it
enhances the color and contrast
of the streaks overall.

S T E P 19 : With the top duplicate
smudge layer still active, Shift-
click the bottom smudge layer
so all three layers are selected.
Press Command-E (PC: Ctrl-E)
to merge them into one layer.

STEP 20: Now turn on the
duplicate subject layer at the
top of the layer stack. If you
see any areas that look like
ghosting, switch to the Move
tool, and drag the smudge layer
to hide those areas behind the
extracted subject.
You’ll see there are some
smudge areas that are a bit
dark and draw attention where
they shouldn’t, so let’s lessen
those areas with a layer mask.
With the smudge layer still
active, click the Add Layer
Mask icon (circle in a square)
at the bottom of the Layers
panel to add a reveal all mask
filled with white.
