Wild beauty
I love walking the coastal
paths, not just for the
sea views, but for the
scent of wild garlic and
the amazing wild flowers
that dot colour all over
the cliffs. My yellow
flowers are loosely based
on Common Bird’s-foot-
trefoil, while the pink and
purple blooms look a bit
like Thrift or Sea Pink.
Full of character
The real detail in this design is saved
for the two gulls, who are the focus
of the piece. I’ve used backstitch and
fractionals to give them plenty of
character. They look like they’re having
a little chat, as if they’ve bumped into
one another on their way to the shops!

How to make
a cushion
This design is ideal for
turning into a cushion –
it’s a perfect square, and
the fabric is completely
covered in stitches,
giving it a lovely texture
with no aida on show. A
standard cushion is about
40x40cm, and this design
is 29x29cm, so you simply
need to add a pretty fabric
border all the way around.
