Summer’s
beauty
Stop and smell the roses on a summer’s day,
with Jenny Barton’s light-footed fairy friend
Meet the designer
Jenny Barton
Jenny has been passionate
about the creative arts
since she was a small
child, and went on to
study graphic design at
university. Soon after,
she landed a job as a
needlework designer for
DMC Creative World,
and became a freelance
designer a couple of years
later. She loves being
able to work with cross
stitch every day!
“Capture the magic
at the bottom of
your garden. With
the complexion of an
English rose and a
dress made of petals,
this fairy is a delight.”
Stitcher’s guide
This design is worked on 28-count white
evenweave over two threads of the fabric in
30 shades of stranded cotton. Cross stitch is in
both one and two strands of thread, while half
cross stitch is worked in two strands. Backstitch
defines the design in one strand, and fractionals
add extra detail. This project also uses seed
beads, and is suitable for experienced stitchers.
How to stitch the design
1
Find the centre of your fabric by folding
it in half both ways. Find the centre of
the chart and start stitching here.
2
Work the cross stitch over two threads
of the fabric using one or two strands of
cotton. For every tiny symbol you see on the
chart, work a fractional stitch.
3
Work the half cross stitch in two strands
of cotton.
4
Add the backstitch detail using one
strand of cotton.
5
Attach the beads using two strands of
matching cotton.
6
Check over your stitching and prepare
for framing.
