Whilst WWDC is primarily held to show off the
major changes coming to Apple’s operating
systems in the months ahead, it’s also a chance
for developers to reflect on the year gone by,
and for Apple to recognize some of the most
beautifully-designed apps and games on the
App Store. This year was no exception, and
today, we take a closer look at 2019’s winners...
APPLE DESIGN AWARDS
First launched in 1996 under the name Human
Interface Design Excellence (HIDE) Awards,
the Apple Design Awards is an annual awards
ceremony that’s hosted at the Worldwide
Developers Conference, designed to showcase
the most innovative macOS and iOS apps every
year. At the 2019 event, nine iOS developers were
awarded for their artistry and user experience
design, pushing the envelope and utilizing the
iOS and macOS ecosystems to benefit users
through stunning design and groundbreaking
functionality. What separates the ADAs from
other awards is that Apple represents companies
big and small from around the world - indeed,
this year’s winning apps were lovingly built
in Australia, Austria, England, France, Italy,
Lithuania, and the US, demonstrating that
innovation is happening everywhere.
As is always the case, this year’s Apple Design
Awards winners fall into a number of
categories, spanning sectors like photo editing,
medical, and sports, each offering a unique
approach and unparalleled user interface that
combines design, sound, graphics, and controls,
whilst taking advantage of technologies like
haptics, Metal, or Core ML to deliver something
truly magical and unique to the App Store.
