VEGAN FAST-FOOD CHAINS
by CHLOE, Copper Branch, and Veggie Grill have each
announced major expansion plans, aiming to have at least
50 restaurant locations within the next four years. These
expansions would make the restaurants the top three largest
plant-based fast-food chains in the world, feeding a growing
consumer base hungry for healthier, convenient options.
NEWS/now
“I started to see the chickens differently. I’d never really
looked at them as individuals before, but my heart started
to break when I would see their terror and suffering.
Suddenly, I saw them as birds, not products.”
—ARKANSAS FARMER JENNIFER BARRETT, who made headlines when she and her
husband transitioned their chicken and cattle ranch to a vegan mushroom farm
DURING AN INVESTOR
MEETING, MCDONALD’S
CEO STEVE EASTERBROOK
explained why the fast-food giant has
no current plans to add vegan options
to its menu. While he admits he has
begun initial discussions about adding
vegan menu items, he says there are no
current plans for change. Easterbrook
says McDonald’s would first need to
understand if there is “an additional
complexity” in bringing on plant-based
food—such as increased wait times—
and if so, “is that complexity worth it?”
Trust us, Steve. It would be worth it.
