Tomato


Breakdown


The type of tomato you choose for
your gazpacho will have a unique
effect on the soup’s flavor. Some taste
very sweet (think cherry and grape
tomatoes), while others are more
tangy and acidic (we’re looking at you,
beefsteak and romas). Lucky for us,
that means endless flavor profiles.
Here’s what to know when picking your
tomatoes.
Cherry, strawberry, and grape
Super sweet and juicy, these bite-sized
beauties are perfect for salads, kebabs,
and popping right into your mouth.
Available in yellow, green, black, or red,
choose tomatoes that are plump and
firm, but not hard, and feel heavy for
their size (the heavier, the juicier!).
Heirloom
Heirloom tomatoes are a fan-favorite
because they have just the right
balance of sugar and acid. They’re also
revered for their succulence—their
super-soft texture means their cells
rupture easily, releasing a ton of juicy
goodness.
Hothouse
Hothouse literally refers to how these
tomatoes are grown ... in a hot house!
These greenhouse-grown fruits tend
to be more tart and are common in
grocery stores due to their ability to
withstand shipping.
