TRANSFER CASES
The transfer    case    is  an  auxiliary   gearbox connected   to  the back    of  the
transmission    that    allows  the driver  to  select  high    and low drive   range.  Transfer
cases   are unique  to  4WD vehicles    only.   Power   is  directed    from    the transmission
through the transfer    case    to  both    ends    of  the vehicle through two separate
driveshafts.    The transfer    case    is  attached    to  the rear    of  the transmission    and gets
its input   directly    from    the transmission.   Power   is  directed    from    the engine
through the transmission    and then    through the transfer    case    to  either  the rear
wheels  or  both    the front   and rear    wheels, depending   on  what    drive   mode    the
driver  selects.
