How to Make Your Car Last Forever: Avoid Expensive Repairs, Improve Fuel Economy, Understand Your Warranty, Save Money

A caveat here with respect to transfer cases and tires on 4WD vehicles: Based on personal experience, I have
seen people install two different sized tires on their 4WD vehicle to give the appearance of the vehicle being
“jacked up,” using larger diameter tires on the rear and smaller diameter tires in the front. Bad move. The two
sizes will result in the front and rear driveshafts turning at different rpm. This will stress the transfer case to
the nth degree because the front and rear driveshafts are turning at different rates of speed, essentially
creating “twist” within the transfer case. I have seen transfer cases vaporized because of this move. All four
tires on 4WD vehicles must be the same overall diameter.
