Pictured here is a typical CV joint boot. Note the clamps at each end of the boot, one on the axle and one on
the joint. Lubricant is packed inside this boot to ensure the CV joint is properly lubed. Boot inspection is a
critical part of regular vehicle maintenance. Whenever the car is in for an oil change, make sure the tech looks
at the CV joint boots and replaces them if cracking or tearing is evident. If a bad CV joint boot is caught early
enough, the joint may be saved, preventing a costly boot replacement.
