MAINTENANCE OF REAR-WHEEL DRIVE
DIFFERENTIALS
Rear-wheel-drive differentials require minimal maintenance. Regular checks of
the fluid for level, color, and consistency are recommended. Every oil change is
sufficient. A low level, the presence of metal in the lubricant, or change of color
of the lubricant could be an indication of trouble. A check of up-and-down and
side-to-side play of the wheel bearings will bring to light any potential problems
before they get to “pocket-draining” levels.
