Wheel bearings come in many different shapes and sizes, but they all do the same thing: provide a smooth
surface for the wheels to ride and roll on. Wheel bearings are comprised of a set of rollers, a race (the face on
which the rollers ride), and an encasement. When bearings wear out from lack of lubrication of just plain
mechanical wear over time they make a roaring or groaning noise. A simple way to determine which side is
bad is to turn the steering wheel right and left while driving slowly to shift the weight of the vehicle from one
side to another. Whichever side the roaring noise is louder on is the side that has the bad bearing.
