How to Make Your Car Last Forever: Avoid Expensive Repairs, Improve Fuel Economy, Understand Your Warranty, Save Money

Correct me if I’m wrong, but don’t most of us operate our motor vehicles
under one or more of these conditions at least once a week? Does driving in
construction areas during roadway construction season count as the dusty area
qualifier? For those people who write to me and say that they drive 3,000 miles
per year, doesn’t that fall under “most trips are less than 5 to 10 miles?” What
about all the SUVs and crossovers I see out on the roadways towing a trailer or
with a car top carrier affixed to the roof during summer vacation? And on it
goes.
Therefore, I submit to you that we should all maintain our cars according to
severe service schedules (the more aggressive approach to maintenance) if we
want to get the most mileage out of them.
At this point, some of you are asking, “Why all this maintenance?” Answer:
To keep a reliable and safe vehicle on the road for a long time (and save you
money). Let’s look briefly at a few facts to support this approach.
