The positive major move in electronic ignition systems was eliminating the ignition points and condenser. In
place of the mechanical ignition points to trigger the spark to the sparkplug was a magnetic pickup and
reluctor. Now the spark was triggered by a magnetic impulse rather than the turn of a camshaft against small
ignition points, which wore out every 10,000 miles. It was better but not the ultimate. The ultimate is
automatically adjusting, long-lasting ignition systems.
