The brake fluid in this reservoir has been overheated as is evident by its dark color. When overheated, brake
fluid loses its hydraulic properties, and the brake system function suffers. The reason for overheating was
probably due to a brake caliper sticking as a result of either corrosion on the brake caliper or a pitted piston.
When checking brake fluid, also look for rust and sediment buildup in the master cylinder reservoir. If moisture
has contaminated the system, it will find its way to the lowest points of the system and set up rust. Check
your owner’s manual for the suggested intervals to flush the brake fluid.
