Tom,

Q I own a ‘98 Sedan Deville with a water leakage problem. Every time it

rains my carpets on the driver and passenger (front) get soaked. No one
seems to know where it’s coming from. I noticed there is no molding around
my windshield. Could that be the problem?

Debra,

A Water leaks in the body of cars can be tricky to locate. Water always

finds its way to the lowest point in the vehicle. That said, the point of entry
might be way higher than where it’s welling up. Since the molding that goes
around the windshield is missing, I would start there with a water test. If the
vehicle has a sunroof, the drain hoses for it could be leaking or plugged,
resulting in water finding its way inside the vehicle.

The best way to track down a water leak is to remove some interior
body panels and then run a garden hose all over the vehicle until you start to
see water coming in. Find the point of entry and repair the leak.
