Wynn’s Product Warranty program is a perfect plan for the consumer who
is purchasing an older, higher mileage vehicle. The standard “Powertrain”
coverage is available from 3 Months/3,000 Miles up to 3 Years/36,000
Miles. The Wynner’s Choice coverage includes powertrain, air
conditioning, fuel and cooling system coverage and is available from 1
Year/15,000 Miles up to 3 Years/45,000 Miles.
The key here? Make sure you use the chemicals in covered components as
prescribed by the chemical company and that you follow the time and mileage
intervals. If you don’t follow prescribed procedures, any warranty claim will be
denied.
Some companies offer tiered coverage depending on vehicle mileage, year,
service description (how it’s used), and condition of the vehicle at the time of
contract purchase. Most extended warranty companies require that you have an
in-depth inspection of the vehicle performed by a company-approved inspection
station before they will allow coverage. This is perfectly understandable when
you consider preexisting conditions like engine or transmission wear and
damage.
Some companies offer plans with no deductibles or tiered deductibles. The
method of payment of claims varies. Some plans allow immediate payment to
the service provider via the use of a company credit card. These are the best,
because the service provider gets paid immediately and therefore is more willing
to deal with the extended warranty company. In addition, there’s no out-of-
pocket expense that has to be reimbursed. Other plans require that you first pay
the bill, and then they will reimburse you later after you send supporting
documentation for the claim to their fulfillment department.
The bottom line? Know who you are dealing with before purchasing an
extended warranty (and read the fine print before buying).
