The honing stone (pictured in the cylinder) has a silicone carbide
tip and is run up and down the cylinder wall to leave a cross-hatch
pattern.


While   the hone    spins,  it  is  dragged through the cylinder    to  leave   a
cross-hatch pattern. The dimensions of the cylinder are checked at
several points during the honing process to ensure the correct
amount of material is removed from the cylinder walls.
